Mom treats me to a Liza Minnelli concert at Cow Palace, which turns out to be an Janis Ian tribute; Liza performs Side 1 of "Between the Lines." The audience gets restless after intermission when Liza, sick of singing, decides instead to show trailers for B movies from the sixties before retiring to play records alone in her dressing room, a perfect replica of Sarah Jane Johnson's teenage bedroom in "Imitation of Life." The theatre empties out before the show ends, and while I feel like staying, I concede that it is probably best to beat the traffic. We gather our things and head for the exit, passing Liza's door, deliberately left ajar.
